Cornèr Bank is the first bank in Ticino to be recognised by Health Promotion Switzerland for its commitment to creating a healthy and stimulating working environment geared towards personal well-being.
Choosing an employer today involves a lot more than simply evaluating the position on offer. A good work-life balance, a stimulating environment and genuine opportunities for personal growth are becoming increasingly decisive factors when choosing a new job.
The Friendly Work Space certification is recognition of our firm commitment to constructing a working environment that values every member of staff, offering tangible tools for their well-being and development.
«Healthy and motivated staff are the foundation of our success. That is why we seek to create a working environment in which everyone can unleash their full potential, grow and feel valued. We are convinced that everyone benefits from this: our staff, our clients and the Bank itself». Vittorio Cornaro, Chief Executive Officer.
Why is this quality seal so important?
The Friendly Work Space certification is the Swiss standard for occupational health management, as recognised by SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) and the FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health). The companies awarded this quality mark provide excellent working conditions, improving employee well-being and organisational sustainability.
The route to certification starts with an in-depth analysis of the company's background to identify any requirements for occupational health management that are already being met as well as any potential areas for improvement. The analysis is based on six systematically recorded and reviewed occupational health management (OHM) quality criteria.
Another analysis is carried out after three years to discover whether the working conditions that promote health have been improved and what measures are still to be taken to meet specific requirements. The aim is to gradually improve OHM to make it more sustainable.
Our long-term path towards a «Cornèr of well-being»
It all started with listening. Through a series of dedicated surveys and initiatives in 2022, we collected data on the needs of our employees and turned their suggestions into concrete actions.
In order to ensure that occupational well-being is long-lasting, a welfare manager was appointed as a reference point for quality of life at work, supported by an interdivisional team, who voiced the needs of the people who contribute to the growth of our organisation every day.
The result? Improved well-being, more growth, more value
- Greater work-life balance: we extended the work-from-home programme and introduced a system for taking half-days off in lieu for accumulated overtime, to allow everyone to better manage their time.
- Training and growth at the click of a button: our internal Cornèr Academy platform offers a wide range of courses geared towards personal development, stress management and mental well-being, as well as internal and external courses for updating vocational skills and developing soft skills.
- New benefits: long-service awards every five years, discounts and special offers in a range of areas such as travel, leisure-related services and consumer goods.
- Team-building and motivational activities: we are promoting collaboration and a sense of belonging though the Let's get sporty! programme and new divisional get-togethers.
«Personal well-being is a highly subjective concept because everyone has different needs. That is why we offer our employees a wide range of benefits and encourage them take care of their physical and mental health consciously and responsibly». Corrado Pozzi, Welfare Manager.
What's next? Our ongoing commitment
«Friendly Work Space is not the destination, it is a stage in a journey on which there will be many new horizons to discover. Our goal is to make Cornèr Bank a place where everyone can unleash their full potential.» Christian Torriani, Head of Human Resources.
The special interdivisional team led by the welfare manager will continue to act as a sounding board for employee needs, broadening the impact of the new initiatives.
At the same time, comparing the Bank's Friendly Work Space best practices to the standards set by Health Promotion Switzerland will provide ongoing encouragement for us to improve and to protect the well-being of our most valuable asset: people. The secret to our success yesterday, today and tomorrow.
